Felix is an Adjunct Professor, Senior Fellow at the Global Research Institute and a Senior Affiliate at the Water Institute at the University of North Carolina and an Associate Fellow at the Tellus Institute.
In 2019 he was a candidate to be the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme. He was co-director of the 2018 and 2014 Nexus Conference on Water, Food, Energy and Climate. He has served on the Advisory Committee for the UN President of the General Axembly (2016) for a report on Sustainable Finance and on the Management Review of the UN Global Compact (2018/9)
In 2011 he chaired the UN Conference on Sustainable Societies Responsive Citizens which came forward with the first set of Sustainable Development Goals. During the SDG negotiations, he worked on a number of SDGs - particularly the ones on sustainable cities (SDG 11) as well as those on energy, food, water, governance, and partnerships.
In preparation for Rio+20, he facilitated the first workshop on what the topics for Rio+20 should be focused on. The Donostia Declaration (2008) successfully put forward the key themes that became Rio+20. As Executive Director of Stakeholder Forum, he oversaw the stakeholder engagement for Rio+20.
Felix was the Executive Director of Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future from 1992-2012.
He played a significant role in promoting multi-stakeholder dialogues at the United Nations and prosed to the UN General Assembly the introduction of stakeholder dialogue sessions at the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development.
He has been active at the UN since 1990 attending and actively participating in the World Summits of Rio Earth Summit, Habitat II, Rio+5, Beijing+5, Copenhagen+5, World Summit on Sustainable Development and Rio+20. In 2011 he chaired the United Nations DPI 64th NGO conference - 'Sustainable Societies Responsive Citizens'. From 1997-2001 he co-chaired the UN Commission on Sustainable Development NGO Steering Committee. He has coordinated some of the most innovative stakeholder dialogues at the intergovernmental level Bonn Water (2001), Bonn Energy (2004) and Bonn Nexus (2011). He was part of Christiana Figueres election team for UN Secretary General in 2016 and was also a member of the President of the UN General Assembly's Informal Expert Advisory Group for a report on Responsible Investment for the SDGs.
He has written or edited twenty-four books His latest is Heroes of Environmental Diplomacy: Profiles in Courage (2022) another recent book is Stakeholder Democracy: Represented Democracy in a Time of Fear (2019). His other books include:

He has also co-written his first comic for UNICEF/Comics Uniting Nations: Santa's Green Christmas: Father Christmas battles Climate Change (November 2016).
